On Friday night, January 16th at the Somerset - Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet, the Chamber recognized Doctor Gerard Weigel and Dr. O. J. Stein as the 2008 Distinguished Community Service Award recipients.
Together, Dr. Weigel and Dr. Stein started and continue to provide medical services at their FREE CLINIC “Saint Luke.”
Dr. Weigel chose to relocate to Somerset in 1965 and helped establish the first coronary care unity at the old Somerset City Hospital and was responsible for bringing the first defibrillator to this unit. He is a practicing deacon at St. Mildrid’s Catholic Church.
Dr. O. J. Stein moved to Somerset in 1964 and began his practice in a funeral home in Science Hill and his mission is the same today, “Take care of the patients!” Dr. Stein is also an influential spiritual leader who continues to minister to the Pulaski County Detention Center each Sunday night.
Thank you Dr’s Weigel and Stein. We are proud to honor you as the 2008 Community Distinguished Service Award winners. We appreciate everything you have done for our community.
