Tracing the Development of the Taylor Farms Recall

• July 15, 2026: The FDA and CDC provided Taylor Farms with traceback and epidemiological information that connected certain central Mexico iceberg lettuce lots to a Cyclospora cluster in five states. The Cyclospora Information Hub says Taylor Farms spoke that day with the FDA, CDC, and Michigan health officials, raising scientific questions about both the information and the methods used to develop it.
• July 16, 2026: Government officials, including representatives from the FDA, HHS, and the White House, held further discussions about those questions. On that date, Taylor Farms chose to voluntarily recall all iceberg lettuce obtained from and processed at its central Mexico facility, rather than limiting the action to the particular lots identified by the FDA. The company described the wider measure as being taken “out of an abundance of caution,” and it began informing customers that day.
• July 17, 2026: Taylor Farms announced the voluntary recall publicly and began its internal investigation. This date is generally identified as the beginning of the Taylor Farms Cyclospora recall.
• July 18, 2026: The FDA notified Taylor Farms about an initial “confirmed positive” result from a test sample of Taylor Farms lettuce from central Mexico. The Current Status of the Situation

The Cyclospora Information Hub now includes a newer testing update. As of August 27, 2026, the FDA reports that there have been no confirmed positive Cyclospora product test results.

Taylor Farms says its own testing has likewise produced no positive findings. The company has tested about 2,000 samples in central Mexico since May.

For the balance of the growing season, Taylor Farms has halted all sourcing of iceberg lettuce from central Mexico. Its leafy greens are currently being sourced from the United States and Canada. The company says it spends more than $200 million each year on independently audited and verified food safety protocols, and states that any future decision to resume central Mexico sourcing will depend on results from the ongoing third-party review and FDA investigation.

Those trying to determine whether a product is affected should note that the recall is limited to iceberg lettuce from the central Mexico facility, with distribution primarily occurring through foodservice channels. The Hub states that only a limited number of Marketside-brand retail products sold at Walmart were involved, and all have been removed from store shelves. Products not marked “Product of Mexico” were not included in the recall.

Another Recall Occurred More Recently
